Document Review Exercise

Return to Module 2-3

Identify: 1) the two essential considerations that first require reviewing before conducting LEL’s Document Review; 2) the initial steps for the Document Review, itself.

1)  There are two principles considerations to realize:

  • The understanding of what the organization is trying to achieve and how this relates to customers; this is achieved by reviewing issues such as:

    • quality policy statements

    • quality planning

    • quality objectives and targets

  • The understanding of processes; this is achieved by reviewing issues such as:

    • process outputs

    • process outcomes

    • process inter-relationships

    • processes and their relationships to customer requirements and needs.

2)

  • It is essential to first review the description of the structure of the QMS, its levels, the description of the roles of each level and their inter-relationships before carrying on with the specifics of the documentation involved.

  • Determine the 'road map', a descriptive expression of the QMS components and the ISO 9001:2008 clauses; this is typically expressed in the form of a flowchart or matrix and is used by the organization to better visualize the relationship between the two.
